From Classroom to Cloud: Kewota’s Digital Tutoring Creates Holiday Opportunities for Teachers

The world is moving digital. Digital transformation is happening in all sectors and industries, and it is a change we can not avoid.

The need for adopting technology in Kenya has grown tremendously and is still growing in the digital age. Technology has become a mother of civilizations, social sciences, and arts.

Over the past 20 years, gender and technology-related feminist views have advanced significantly. The long-held belief that men dominate technology disciplines has been discredited as more girls and women are beginning to exhibit enthusiasm for technology.

Kenya has paid much more emphasis to women in education, particularly since the government implemented equitable treatment for both girls and women in technical fields in support of the new development objectives. Despite this, women are still underrepresented in digital transformation. KEWOTA is solving this problem through the K-Digital program.

This program provides laptop ownership opportunities for KEWOTA members and is available through Lipa mdogo mdogo for as low as 2,000 per month. The laptops come equipped with digitized textbooks, TSC online services and access to thousands of self-development courses. A member can also choose a modem, and solar power option for areas with low power access.

As teachers savor an extended holiday break, many are turning to side hustles to supplement their income during this opportune time. For KEWOTA members, the opportunity to earn extra cash has been brought right to their homes through KEWOTA’s laptops. This is made possible by Roodito, an online tutoring platform designed for both teachers and learners.

KEWOTA members engage with this platform as teachers, enabling them to craft exercises and quizzes that they can then post for learners. Students access and complete these assignments, after which teachers review and provide feedback. Compensation for teachers is determined based on the number of questions completed. To ensure content quality, dedicated quality control officers ensure that all material meets the required standards. Parents are also granted access to monitor their children’s progress.

Weekly payouts into MPESA are facilitated for KEWOTA members, with the amount calculated according to the quantity of questions generated and completed. Importantly, this program promotes inclusivity, allowing teachers who are caring for children to earn income with just a laptop and an internet connection.

KEWOTA’s leaders are proactive in seeking opportunities to enhance the financial well-being of their members, and this initiative stands as a testament to their commitment. It exemplifies how KEWOTA goes beyond traditional roles to support the welfare of female teachers, even beyond the confines of the classroom.

To join KEWOTA and access this opportunity, women teachers can reach out to KEWOTA through 0784321321 or info@kewota.co.ke.
